Mattress lumbar support explained
Lumbar support can describe a fixed firmer middle region or an adjustable zone. Those are different designs, and neither term by itself proves a medical outcome.
Fixed lumbar zoning
Some foam and coil designs build more resistance into the center third of the mattress.
Adjustable lumbar zoning
Some air systems use separate chambers or controls so the sleeper can change the middle region independently.
Airpedic’s current claim
Airpedic describes separate lumbar/midsection adjustment within its multi-zone air system. That is a mechanical product feature, not proof of treating pain.
What to compare
Ask whether the zone is fixed or adjustable, how wide it is, whether each sleeper controls it independently and whether you actually notice/use the extra control.
